“DOTS!! DOTS! DOTS!”

Acrylic on Canvas, Set of 3, 18” x 36” each

This set of paintings represents the chaos and complexity within simplicity, and the interplay of basic human emotions. This is highlighted through the monochromatic use of primary colours in each painting and the simple shapes of uniform dots on a solid coloured canvas. Each canvas represents three primary emotions, being joy (yellow), sadness (blue), and anger/stress (red). Although the canvases may seem simple, the organization of dots in varying monochromatic colours creates a wave-like rhythm, revealing complexity within simplicity, and creating visual movement within static dots. The fabricated visual chaos within the simple rhythmic patterns mirrors unpredictable moments of emotions and life, reflecting how emotions present in different ways (by the varying shades) and vary over time. When all representations of each emotion are portrayed together, they create a symphony of colour.
