“Slow Down”
Oil on Canvas, 12” x 24”
This self-portrait explores feelings of anxiety and chaos that are common in urban space. In this painting, I stand frozen in time in the center, surrounded by constant, blurred movement around me in the subway station, which is created through the lack of details and the horizontal blurred lines representing movement and anonymity, contrasting with the high level of details painted for me in the center. The elongated and wide canvas further symbolizes the elongation of time around me and the overwhelming expanse of emotions. More broadly, this painting reflects the wide experience of feeling trapped in the relentless flow of time, and urges viewers to contemplate the value of stillness and self-reflection.
